At Velomax, sustainability management is understood as a continuous improvement process in which environmental protection and sustainability play a central role.
Since 2010, committed employees from all departments have come together voluntarily and regularly as the so-called Green Team. This group coordinates and deals with sustainability issues relating to the management of the Velodrom and the Max-Schmeling-Halle. The Green Team is also in contact with the parent company apleona.
Velodrom Apiary
During the linden blossom season in the summer, bees buzz around Prenzlauer Berg, pollinating the surrounding plants. To help protect bees and promote local biodiversity, the Velodrom has partnered with a Berlin-based beekeeper.
Several bee colonies live on the roof of the Velodrom arena. They pollinate plants in the surrounding area, thereby contributing to local biodiversity. In addition, honey is harvested every year directly from the bee colonies on the Velodrom’s roof.
By establishing these bee colonies, Velomax Berlin is creating additional habitat for bees while simultaneously raising awareness of biodiversity in urban areas.
